Barry Corey: The Job of Job [Biola University Chapel]
This college raised tuition for my son every semester. With it they built a new parking facility. He now owes $100,000. He was a film major. They were required to watch Silence of the Lambs, not once, but 3x and analyze it. He met his wife there. A biblical studies major-whonis now a trans man. To say that this University did anything is support of my family and Christian and education is a farce.
I had a fantastic undergraduate experience at Biola. I find their approach to Christian faith and engagement with culture to be thoughtful, theologically conservative (in a really good way—strong convictions for things that matter most) and well-balanced. Grateful for this place and its leadership, even when others are quick to throw criticism. Thank you for your faithful work.
The administrative support at this university is consistently unresponsive and indifferent to student needs. Staff members frequently ignore requests and are often absent from their desks during standard operating hours. Most notably, many staff members become unavailable a full week before official holidays, leaving urgent matters unaddressed. In a private sector environment, where performance is tied to results and accountability, this level of negligence and lack of professional standards simply would not be tolerated.
I’m conflicted because I loved my time at Biola and felt pretty much safe. However, for me, having the president and the school being very selective on what to speak out on and what not to speak out on politically is a cause of concern. It is a place I no longer recognize. This was a place where I was taught about a loving, social justice oriented, and radical Jesus. Having one social justice conference annually does not change the epidemic that grows here. I cannot in good conscience recommend this school to any minority persons.
Absolutely no communication or desire to communicate from admissions or from advisors. They do not seem to care in the least about new students or prospective ones.
